What to buy on sale

January is known for being the huge sales month in many countries. In the Netherlands several of the largest equestrian sites have their winter sales on at the moment.

I personally love sales(why wouldn’t you want to buy something for less money. Haha), but I do know there are people that find them to messy or don’t want to buy “outdated” product. However there are certain things that are really smart to buy on the big sales:

Saddle pads

I can’t remember the last time I bought a saddle pad at full price. I personally prefer the euro star pads, but at 70 euro I find them too expensive. So I buy a couple of them when the sales is on instead. Like this one for example:

Kingsland victor saddle pad. Normally 80,- now 40,- at Divoza

Show shirts

I don’t why, but seems that someone decided that showshirts should be redicolous expensive eventough their full of polyester(my favorite fabric -not). Show shirts change little season by season, so you can save quite a lot on buying them at the large sales in winter and summer. For example the ones at Kingsland haven’t changed all year. So why not buy them a bit cheaper?

Kingsland classic show shirt. Normally 45,- now 35,- at De Kroo.

Rugs

Winter rugs/ turnout rugs are definitely one of the most expensive things we can buy for our horses. Generally the rugs don’t change much from year to year. So if you know that you need a new one next year it can be smart to buy them on the winter sales instead of at the beginning of autumn. At the moment you can even get Bucas rugs up to 30% off which doesn’t happen a lot.

Bucas 300 gram smartex winter turnout rug – normally 255,- now 178, euro- at Dochorses

Halters

You always need halters and saving some dollars here and there on them is never bad. Their certainly not expensive, but buying them at 50% off feels better then buying them at full price no?

Schockemöhl Tennessee. Normally 17,95, now 8,98,- at Epplejeck

Boots

You need boots all year around, but generally they don’t go on sale as much the rest of the year as they do now. So why not buy some at 30-50% as a delayed Christmas gift for yourself?

Petrie Melbourne – normally 299,- now 199,- at Ooteman

Here you got a list of the sales going on at the moment or coming up:
Divoza – up to 50% off

Ooteman – special sale starts 15 January, for now 30% off

Dochorses – up to 30% off on rugs from Rambo, Amigo, Bucas

Schockemöhl – 50% off certain items

Epplejeck – winter sale with up to 50% starts Sunday 8 January

Winter stable rugs guide 2016/2017

Even tough I would like summer to last forever, it unfortunately doesn’t and winter is upon us. The weather man even told me that it will be as cold as 4c during the night next week. This means its time to look at winter rugs.

One can become dizzy when you look at all the rugs at the marked at the moment. There is so many different ones, depending on what you need. In this post I have chosen to look at winter stable rugs in different prices and grams. It will start at 50 gram and move upwards.

Here you can see a small temperature guide which can give you  an indication on when to put on which rugs.

turnoutwardrobeguide

Please note that some of the rugs below have the option to be combinated with a liner, but I have chosen not to include this info and only focus on that specific rug. However if you are interested in these, then you should check out the websites of Bucas and Horseware as these are the two brands offering this at the moment. I personally do not like it as I’ve found that the liners end up sliding and not laying well.

I’ve chosen not to say which ones are best as everyone has a different preference, though Bucas and Horseware is known for being the best in the business, but it depends how nice your horse is to his/her rug and what type of style and needs you have. I personally use mostly Horseware Amigo as these fit well on Mr.Grumpy and price/duration is good. Of course there are plenty more brands and rugs out there then the rugs below, but these are the most common ones at the moment. By the way, surprises me that neither Eskadron or BR rugs are easy to find, they are available, but I’ve looked at 10 different sites and none of these were selling rugs from these two brands. Get your game on guys.

I will by the way do turnout rug guide for those horses living outside or being outside a lot in another post.

Ooteman Summer sales

Since we are in the spirit of sales. Ooteman always launches their sales prices before the actual sales, so you can sit down and look through and then quickly buy when the actual sales starts online. Today they released the prices and on Monday at 18.00, you will be able to buy the products. Below you can find some of the scoops I wouldn’t mind buying(you can find the links and prices below).

1. Kieffer Bridle Amilia 100 euro

Petrie Padova

As I told yesterday I went and bought new boots. It was quite a journey!

On Friday I went to Epplejeck Heemskerk who told me I wasn’t allowed to try the ones I wanted to try because she checked the size of my calf and said they would never fit. So the next morning we went to Divoza in Zoetemeer, which is a 40 minute drive from where I live. Once there no one came to help me and I couldn’t find anyone either so I decided to try on some boots myself.  I tried on the one that I wanted, and noticed it did fit around the calf, but they didn’t have the size I needed. So on we went to the next store which was Epplejeck Den Haag. The girl that helped me there was a lot nicer then the one the day before, but unfortunately they didn’t have my size, but at least I found out that the boots did fit around the calf for sure.

Thereafter I started calling around to loads of different stores: Levade in Haarlem didn’t sell them, Boer en dier in Muiderberg told me the size didn’t exist?! and then lastly I ended up checking Ooteman and they had them, the only issue was that they were over an hour away from where we were and it was 1530 and the store closed at 17.00. However we decided to drive there and I was so happy I did. Not only did they have the boots I wanted in both Black and brown, so I could choose, but they also provided great service. And to make it even better the boot was priced down from 299 euro to 245. Below you can finally see my new boot, the Petrie Padova. I was so afraid that I would need to customise boots as I have quite thick calfs(42 cm), but these fit perfectly because of the elastic on the back. Once I’ve used them a couple of times I’ll make a review. For now they do feel super comfy and love that the zipper is on the front side.
