Stable tip

Good evening,

You know that feeling when your horse have been outside with his raincoat on, rolling around, having fun and then he/she comes in and you have to hang the rug over your other rugs which is hanging on your stable door? Making them all dirty as well.

The drama.

….

I actually stole this tip from a stable friend who had hung up one. A rug bag for your stable door.

I bought mine from QHP a couple of weeks ago and it’s proving itself very useful. It’s super easy to click on your door and you can still slide the door open. The one on the picture above is currently carrying 3 different sweat rugs(yeah let’s not get into why I have 3 different ones), all staying nice and clean while the dirty rain coat can hang on top.

Here are some different options:

QHP – 21.95 euro

BR – 25 euro

BR Sigma cap

Ola,

A lot of people were excited with the new cap from Harry’s horses. The only thing with that one is that it had an adjustable wheel in the back, which can be really annoying. However it seems to be cap release week as BR has just launched a new one as well. The Sigma. A quite classy cap without the wheel in the back. I will say tough, for those riding dressage, you might have issues getting your bun underneath it, but for training it’s perfect. The price is around 80 euro and you can get it with a normal leather looking top or glitter top in black and blue. Below images of them both.

What do you think of it?

First dressage test

Pfft, I don’t think I’ve been this nervous in a long long time.

But yeah, let’s start at the beginning. Some time ago me and some stable mates decided that it was a good idea for me to do a try out dressage test at another stable. At that point in time it seemed totally fun. That all lasted all the way till this morning when I realised what I had signed up for.

But heck, I’m also to stubborn to quit, so on we went (you never get away from fear without facing it right?). Luckily I didn’t have to go alone, cause that would have not ended very well. Grumpy feeds on my nervousness, so I got Ivonne and Inge along for the ride to help me out with everything(Holla at Ruben and Sabine for the gezelligheid).

1

For some reason before today I was really nervous for the transportation and how he would react to a new arena. I had this image in my head that he would freak out and fall off the transportation or so. Not logical at all as he has never done this, and he didnt either. He went on like a dream, transported totally fine and when we came there I let the ladies do their thing as they know him and I didn’t want to make him nervous. Now I know why professional riders have grooms. haha.

23

When I came to testride Grumpy for the first time, he gave me this feeling of security, which he did again today. Riding around in the big outdoor arena felt so nice. He wasn’t spooky at all, which I had expected him to be as he can do some twist and turns on me at home. But nada of that, he listened well and if I just could have taken that feeling with me into the test I probably would have ridden the first test better.

That arena was really really big.

67

Wow.

The second we entered the indoor arena everything went blurry. I was too nervous and he hated the white bars and the jury table at the beginning of the arena. But on we went. The longest five minutes of my life. At a certain point all that went trough my mind was “just get trough it, there is light at the end of the tunnel”. More or less everything that could go wrong, went wrong. He didn’t want to get close to the white bars, and I had my reins to long to force him. But oh well, we survived(yes you can call me miss dramatic). Can’t believe I survived holding my breath for five minutes either…

Luckily we got a second chance to redeem ourself and I got a second to breath and it went a lot better. Knowing we can still do a lot better it was still a good feeling to be able to go home knowing we got trough it properly the second time. We still got a lot to practice on, seeing the photos I definitely need to sit better, get my stirrups longer, keep the connection to the bit and loose some weight. Grumpy needs to be a lot more collected, but for now thats all alright. We got things to work on and the first step is taken so we are moving forward.

Looking back I’m so happy I bought a horse that can teach me everything I need to know and that shows me everything I do wrong, without being an ass about it. I’m also really happy I got such great stable mates that are there to support me. Thank you for the help today, couldn’t have done it without you.

To everyone starting out with dressage tests or just want to get better at riding tests I can highly recommend Proefgericht clinics by Marlon van Wissen.

Winter stable rugs guide 2016/2017

Even tough I would like summer to last forever, it unfortunately doesn’t and winter is upon us. The weather man even told me that it will be as cold as 4c during the night next week. This means its time to look at winter rugs.

One can become dizzy when you look at all the rugs at the marked at the moment. There is so many different ones, depending on what you need. In this post I have chosen to look at winter stable rugs in different prices and grams. It will start at 50 gram and move upwards.

Here you can see a small temperature guide which can give you  an indication on when to put on which rugs.

turnoutwardrobeguide

Please note that some of the rugs below have the option to be combinated with a liner, but I have chosen not to include this info and only focus on that specific rug. However if you are interested in these, then you should check out the websites of Bucas and Horseware as these are the two brands offering this at the moment. I personally do not like it as I’ve found that the liners end up sliding and not laying well.

I’ve chosen not to say which ones are best as everyone has a different preference, though Bucas and Horseware is known for being the best in the business, but it depends how nice your horse is to his/her rug and what type of style and needs you have. I personally use mostly Horseware Amigo as these fit well on Mr.Grumpy and price/duration is good. Of course there are plenty more brands and rugs out there then the rugs below, but these are the most common ones at the moment. By the way, surprises me that neither Eskadron or BR rugs are easy to find, they are available, but I’ve looked at 10 different sites and none of these were selling rugs from these two brands. Get your game on guys.

I will by the way do turnout rug guide for those horses living outside or being outside a lot in another post.

So lets get into it. What winter stable rugs can you get at the moment:(PS.link to where you can buy it in the name of the rug) :

BR Autumn/Winter 2016

br-jacket-winter-2016
BR Jacket Bonsai Ladies / Also available in blue.

Today its official 14 weeks and 2 days till Christmas. What does mean? It means we’re pretty close to shorter nights and colder weather. The only fun thing about going into these darker times for me is that all the different equestrian brands are launching their winter season collections. After having looked through a couple of different ones it seems that the main colors we can expect this winter is burgundy and blue. The first collection I want to share with you is the new season from BR. They’ve got some really nice stuff in their line for this season, below you can see some of the pieces I found. If you want to check out the whole line, you can do so here.

BR Riding breeches Poplar ladies full seat
BR Riding breeches Poplar ladies knee

Looking through the line I am happy to see there is less and less bling bling on the breeches. These are also available in blue. These have loads of elestane in them which means they should be really comfortable and fit many sizes.

Saddle pad Passion Larch and Passion Almond.

I’ve always really liked the saddle pads from BR as they are of good quality, ok priced and nice colors. New this winter is the saddle pad Larch which has shock-absorbing pads to make it more comfortable for the horses back.

Boot bag passion – 4 EH winter gloves – Groom bag passion

I love my bootbag and cap bag from BR. They both come at an affordable price and looks and feels really nice. No scratches on my cap or boots for that matter at all. So can definitely recommend the boot bag to you. I’ve never tried  BR gloves, but these seem really nice. Comes with a better grip as well.

br-wool-rugbr-rain-rug-winter-2016br-stable-rug

  1. Woolen rug with neck, 2. Rain rug , 3. Stable rug.

How comfy and nice doesn’t that woolen rug look? Love that it comes with a neck considering Mr.Grumpy needs that in the winter.
Overall I think its a really nice collection, what I like the most with BR is the good quality at affordable prices. Did you see anything nice?

Luxury VS budget steals Helmets

edwina-silver.jpg

Since we are in the spirits of helmets today I figured I would put together a selection of the helmets currently on the market. As not all of us can afford to pay the top dollar for a helmet I put together a budget versus luxury selection. I used to have a Harry’s Horse for a long time, and though they are perfect for the price they cost I must say my Samshield Shadowmatt is a lot more comfortable. Another difference between the Harry’s Horse and the Samshield is that if you end up falling, Samshield will renew the shield for free as many times as you need. Normally helmets doesn’t come on sale, but Epplejeck and Divoza often have 25 % off on an item of choice, which means on a shadowmatt for 299 euro, you end up saving 80 euro. Always good to save some money 😉

LUXURY HELMETS

While watching I was searching around the web for some cheap saddle pads and came across all of these for less then 30 euro.Links can be found below.

Helmet bag

With my old Harry’s horse helmet I didn’t really care to take care of it and generally let it just hang around in my tack closet. However for Christmas I got a really nice Samshield helmet that I wanted and needed to take a bit better care of. After having a look online I ended up with the black and brown BR(nr 6) one that you can see below here. Super happy with it and its leaving my helmet scratch free. I need another one for my new Uvex competition helmet tough, so wanted to see if there was something new on the marked. Below you can see some of the ones I found. I think I will end up with the Uvex one, just need to save up a bit.

  2. BR Passion
  3. Kingsland helmet bag
  4. BR
  5. QHP
  6. BR

Fetlock boots

While cleaning Mr.Grumpy’s legs today I noticed that he was a bit sensitive on his left backleg, it was like the fetlock boot had rubbed his skin to hard.  As the good owner I am I decided to go online to find a pair of new ones. He already has a nice pair for indoor, but I want one he can use outdoor that doesn’t cost half of my salary. Below you can see some of the ones I found:

1.BR Ultimo 49.95 e

2. BR classic 15.95 e

3. Eskadron Flexisoft classic 32.95 e

4. Back on Track Royal 54.96 e

5. Eskadron Flexisoft air 70.95 e

6. Epplejeck proride 13.95 e

I have the Eskadron Flexisoft Air for inside usage, but though I absolutely love them, I cannot afford another pair for outside. I think I will buy the BR classic for now.
