So I am currently 3 days into the 3 week’s tour of my boyfriend. Till now the tv provider has fallen out, the electricity of the tv broke, the cats threw up all over our carpet and I’ve yet to make my own food. Unless you call instant noodles, food. We are going good, real good.
Normally I don’t mind when he is going touring, as its normally for a short weekend, but this 3 weeks thing isn’t that much fun. I am a spoilt brat and am used to coming home to homemade food every night.
Luckily for me, I’ve still got Grumpy. He has been a very good fellow this week and been behaving on the lunge line. No more running like a loony tune which was quite the issue for a while. Tomorrow he will be receiving his first ever sports massage. It’s going to be quite interesting to see if he will mind someone touching his body in that way as he is not, for example, a very fan of brushing. We shall see!
I also wanted to update you guys on the new saddle pads from Horsegear called Belezza. I don’t think I’m the only one who’s been wanting the beautiful saddle pads of PS of Sweden and Equestrian Stockholm. Those saddle pads are so beautiful, but I just can’t find myself spending so much money on a pretty saddle pad. Now Horsegear has launched a straight up copy of the PS of Sweden ones. At 34.95,- I think we can all say that the price is a bit more friendly. Currently, they’re available in 5 colors over at Epplejeck. If you buy them now you even get 25% one item.
Today I wanted to tip you about a saddle pad that is great underneath mono saddles. For those that do not know what a mono saddle is: it’s a dressage saddle that has a single flap, to give you closer contact with the horses back. Having only a single flap means that it’s really hard to attach your saddle pads anywhere as the girthing system is set up differently.
Ever since I bought my new saddle, I’ve had some issues with that the saddle pads have been sliding when riding. At the beginning of the ride they lay ok, but in the end, they have a tendency to slide back because I didn’t know how to attach them.
Small disclaimer: Sliding of the saddle pad can be because of an ill-fitting saddle, so please keep this in mind if this is happening to you.
As most saddle pads have the standard system where you attach them to the girth leathers, I decided to go looking for one that would attach them to the D rings on top of the saddle instead. To my rescue came Le Mieux with their pro square cotton saddle pad. This one attaches the pad to the saddle with their straps on top of the saddle pad instead as you can see on the image below here.
I must say that I am super satisfied with these pads, and will probably only buy these moving forward as it was the only ones I could find with such a system. I bought mine with a 25% discount at Horze , making them 47 euro a piece. They are made out of thick cotton and come across very sturdy and of good quality. Best of all, they do not slide underneath my saddle.
Last year I managed to shave Grumpy while being sedated with a super tiny shaving machine. It took me 3 hours and when I finally was done I had only managed to do his neck and two stripes on his belly. He looked hilarious, but it did work.
The last few months I’ve seen several people on Facebook talk about a shaving machine that was really silent and only cost 10 euro on EBAY.
I personally have a tendency to buy more expensive products, because I like to think I’m buying quality. But considering this was only 10 euro, I figured I would buy it to check if the fuzz about it was real.
It does not come in a fancy box like its brother from Sectoline, but you do get all the parts you need besides oil. On a first glance it looks exactly like the one from Sectoline, but it is slightly lighter. Because it’s lighter it give off less shaking which again meant I could shave Grumpy without him freaking out. I haven’t tried shaving the whole him yet, but from trying it out it does work and people do say you can do a whole body with it if you give it a charge or two.
To be honest I’m quite surprised over the quality. If you are looking for a machine to shave the head or legs it’s a perfect little machine. You can buy it HERE.
Fluffy products seem to be everywhere at the moment. I feel like you can find every single product under the moon with fur. Everything from saddle pads, to boots to halters.
Kentucky has now come up with a smart solution for the last one. If you have an old halter in the closet that you want to make a bit prettier, you can buy one of their halter furs that they’ve got for sale.
You can buy them HERE in Black or white for 99 euro.
The equestrian tack brand Kentucky wasn’t really known for bringing out fashion forward and beautiful tack products, but times have changed.
Their new lines of stable rugs, stable accessories and other tack products are so beautifully created that I wish I had them all in my closet. but beautiful unfortunately comes with a price. Their stable rugs starts at 180 euro and lets just say the rest isn’t that cheap either. If you want to check out the rest of the line, you can check it out over on Horze.
So. You have those rugs that I deem necessary, like the winter rugs and raincoat. Then you have those that you buy because you see it on sale and buy it while you do not really need it.
This walker rug from Rambo – Horseware was definitely one of those buys. I saw it on sale this summer and for some reason I really felt I needed it. Since it was pouring down today I took it for a test ride when walking to the lunging arena and walking about afterwards. To be honest the rug is really well made as you can expect from Horseware. It got a fleece inside and a water repellant outer layer. I didn’t dare to lunge with it as I’m afraid Grumpy would get his feet in the surcingles. Although its nice, it’s not a rug that you need at all. I do like the way it makes Grumpy look like he is wearing a superman coat tough. hoho
On another note, Grumpy was really stiff and slow today. I can’t really blame him as it has been such bad weather and it suddenly went from a decent warmth to really freaking cold. Tomorrow he has a day off with cuddles and walks before we start training properly for the next two weeks before I can ride again. Almost there, almost there!
Yesterday boyfriend came with me to the stable and the thing I never thought would happen, happened!
If you had to put horse owners into categories, I would be placed in the category of : “Horse owner who buys the horse too much stuff” Grumpy has more jackets and boots than myself. Normally when the doorbell rings you can hear my boyfriend sigh “have you bought horse stuff again?” , which normally gets the answer “it’s my money!”. I will of course never admit that he is right, Grumpy gets way to much stuff.
Though yesterday, boyfriend held up the field halter of Grumpy and expressed “this thing needs to be thrown in the trash!”. Believe me, this is words i’ll probably never hear again. But he was right, that halter has seen its better days.
As the good girlfriend I am, I went straight on the internet to see if I could find a new one. I had to buy new Superflex powder for Grumpy as well, so I tried to find a site that I could get 20% off to make it a tad bit cheaper. Luckily Dochorse that discount code for this weekend, so I decided to buy halter from there as well. Below you can see the selected one : Equ-all Nylon Halter. Apparently it’s a bit fancy, with an extra opening at the nose. I don’t particularly need this, but its great for younger horses or when you are grooming.
At least I’ve got an answer this time when the package will be delivered… hoho
I am having the most lazy Sunday ever. After 3 days of busy socialising I’ve been spending the whole day on the sofa watching tv. Sometimes those are the best Sundays to be had. However the point of this post is to talk about Grumpy’s new rug and not my lazy ways.
As you can imagine, boyfriend did raise a brow when I bought this one. Considering my trunk is filled up to the brim with rugs he did not think I needed another one. I probably could have survived without, but I simply choose not to. haha
Since the summer has really stretched out here in the Netherlands, I felt I needed a rug that could cater to the cold mornings, but warmer days. In the beginning I did want to buy the 50 gram Bucas Celtic rug, but considering the price is above 100 euro, I felt I didn’t want to spend that much money on a rug that was only for a couple of weeks.
After thorough searching, I came across the new Highliner stable rug from Harry’s Horse. I’ve never owned any rugs from this line before, but several stable mates have had them and they always look good. It was more or less the only rug I could find that was 0 gram, had a fleece inner and was well put together. With 25% at Divoza, the rug turned out to be 50 euro. You might ask me why I didn’t just go for a summer rug, but I must admit I do not like the summer rugs on sale at the moment. The fabric of the Bucas one comes across terrible to me and I ended up giving away the one I had last year. This one feel like you get way more for your money.
As said it has a fleece inner, two surcingles under the belly as well as two around the back legs, and protection for neck and tail. I was really surprised of the quality for the price I paid. I did have to change it for a smaller size as they do fit very large, but the fit overall is very nice. Grumpy is normally a size 195, in this one he is a 185.
If you are looking for a rug for the months where the weather is really in between hot and cold this is a great rug for a good price.
I think we can all agree that this summer has been pretty much insane. And considering it likes to rain in the Netherlands I’ll try my best not to complain about it.
This weather has made me buy two things I never thought I would buy. Or I didn’t buy them, boyfriend was kind enough to go to the store while I was at work. So all props to him
First thing on the shopping list was a fly mask. Normally Grumpy doesn’t care to much about flies, but this year their exceptionally bad. As a fly mask newbie I had no idea what to buy, so I went for the mask below from Bucas. It’s the freedom fly mask which costs about 14.95 euro. Grumpy got a small head for a horse so he has size medium. They run rather big.
The second item he picked up was the Naf Electro lytes for electrolytes. Grumpy hasn’t sweated so much lately, so I have a feeling he is missing a bit of salt. It was the only one they had left at the store, so no idea if it’s great or not, but we shall see. He had no problem eating it and the packaging is easy to use. Costs 14.95 euro as well.
Hopefully these items will make Grumpies life a little better. He seemed to already enjoy the mask. No flies for us.
