A lot of people were excited with the new cap from Harry’s horses. The only thing with that one is that it had an adjustable wheel in the back, which can be really annoying. However it seems to be cap release week as BR has just launched a new one as well. The Sigma. A quite classy cap without the wheel in the back. I will say tough, for those riding dressage, you might have issues getting your bun underneath it, but for training it’s perfect. The price is around 80 euro and you can get it with a normal leather looking top or glitter top in black and blue. Below images of them both.
What do you think of it?
Finally someone has made a good looking helmet that comes at a good price point. Fair play has 3 new helmets that all costs 99-109 euro. All 3 comes with a detachable inside, so you can take it out and wash it in your washing machine. They definitely look a lot like the Samshield ones, but considering I do think they look nice I wouldn’t mind buying this one instead if I had to buy a new one, considering the price is a lot better.

The helmets can be bought at several stores and here.
Which one do you like?
Since we are in the spirits of helmets today I figured I would put together a selection of the helmets currently on the market. As not all of us can afford to pay the top dollar for a helmet I put together a budget versus luxury selection. I used to have a Harry’s Horse for a long time, and though they are perfect for the price they cost I must say my Samshield Shadowmatt is a lot more comfortable. Another difference between the Harry’s Horse and the Samshield is that if you end up falling, Samshield will renew the shield for free as many times as you need. Normally helmets doesn’t come on sale, but Epplejeck and Divoza often have 25 % off on an item of choice, which means on a shadowmatt for 299 euro, you end up saving 80 euro. Always good to save some money 😉

Close to the stable Mr.Grumpy stays at there is a huge recreational area with a lot of smaller stables surrounding it. I often see many people from these go on hacks with their horses without a helmet on. Generally I think people should do whatever they want, considering its their health their messing with if they fall, however the other day on my hack I came across a riding school on a hack with 10 children and the instructor wasn’t wearing a helmet.
What on earth.
As an instructor your often a person that the children look up to and want to be like. This woman sitting on her horse not wearing a helmet disgusted me. Being such a bad role model. Can you image if this woman had to walk a bit on the asphalt, the horse gets scared, she falls off and the children have the possibility to witness a scattered brain on the pavement. While if she wore a helmet, she might actually be alright. With children involved I truly believe safety should come first.
During the Olympics in Rio the British dressage team decided to make a statement as they all wore helmet/hard hats instead of hats believing they would set a an example for everyone watching. I think its so great that someone on such a big podium tried to show the rest of the world that safety comes before fashion.
With all the different helmets on the market today, there really is no excuse. I could put in loads of disgusting photos of people having fallen of their horses without a helmet on, but I’ll save you the distress, you get the point. Wear a helmet please.
With my old Harry’s horse helmet I didn’t really care to take care of it and generally let it just hang around in my tack closet. However for Christmas I got a really nice Samshield helmet that I wanted and needed to take a bit better care of. After having a look online I ended up with the black and brown BR(nr 6) one that you can see below here. Super happy with it and its leaving my helmet scratch free. I need another one for my new Uvex competition helmet tough, so wanted to see if there was something new on the marked. Below you can see some of the ones I found. I think I will end up with the Uvex one, just need to save up a bit.
