Saddle pad for Mono Saddles

Ola ola,

Have you had a great Sunday?

Today I wanted to tip you about a saddle pad that is great underneath mono saddles. For those that do not know what a mono saddle is: it’s a dressage saddle that has a single flap, to give you closer contact with the horses back. Having only a single flap means that it’s really hard to attach your saddle pads anywhere as the girthing system is set up differently.

Ever since I bought my new saddle, I’ve had some issues with that the saddle pads have been sliding when riding. At the beginning of the ride they lay ok, but in the end, they have a tendency to slide back because I didn’t know how to attach them.

Small disclaimer: Sliding of the saddle pad can be because of an ill-fitting saddle, so please keep this in mind if this is happening to you.

As most saddle pads have the standard system where you attach them to the girth leathers, I decided to go looking for one that would attach them to the D rings on top of the saddle instead. To my rescue came Le Mieux with their pro square cotton saddle pad. This one attaches the pad to the saddle with their straps on top of the saddle pad instead as you can see on the image below here.

I must say that I am super satisfied with these pads, and will probably only buy these moving forward as it was the only ones I could find with such a system. I bought mine with a 25% discount at Horze , making them 47 euro a piece. They are made out of thick cotton and come across very sturdy and of good quality. Best of all, they do not slide underneath my saddle.

A little tip from me to you.

How to lose weight fast

For some reason my YouTube have started recommending me videos containing info on how to lose wheight fast. After a day like today where no food can stop my craving it feels kinda insulting that it’s doing that. Anyone been into my YouTube wanting to give me a hint or two? Haha

Today I’ve literally not left the sofa beside  going to the fridge or toilet. I promised myself to take a full day off and after yesterday shenanigans it wasn’t like I could do anything else anyway.

The last 12 hours has been spent on watching a clinic given by Carl Hester some years ago, but still very insightful on how to get those hind legs moving. I managed to find a new girth, which I ended up buying on a German site. Last time I did that I totally misunderstood what I was buying so hopefully that ain’t happening this time. I also found the browband I wanted on eBay. So now all horsy Christmas gifts are bought. Horse-shopping ban is back on.

Mr.Grumpy had a day off today as well. I must honestly say it felt nice not having to go to the stable. Sometimes it good to take a step back to figure out what you want to do next. I’ll write another post on my goals for 2017.

On Friday we went outside after having a ride in the indoor arena. Inside he was a nightmare and wouldn’t go on the bit or listen to the leg, but outside he perked up. A bit too much for my taste, but we did manage to survive “super scary” goats, bird and a hawk. The hawk had decided to land on a branch of a tree and I had to ride 2 meters under it. I must admit I almost closed my eyes and prayed that it wouldn’t fly away just as we passed it. But it decided to stay put and Mr.Grumpy didn’t notice it luckily. I noticed it was good for him to be outside, so need to start forcing myself to do it more in the future.

Totally random post,  but who cares, it’s Sunday. Have a nice eve.

Dear Santa

It’s officially less then a month till christmas. Which means thats its less then a month till Santa comes around. There is a few things that I hope will lay under my christmas tree. Even if I need to buy it myself 😉

  1. Equiline Helm and boots bag

Since I hopefully will be starting competitions in January this bag would be perfect. They actually don’t sell it in the Netherlands as far as I could find, but you can find it online here.

2. Eskadron Platinum Sweat rug

I’ve been wanting this rug since I first laid my eyes on the collection, but considering Mr.Grumpy has enough rugs from here to Tokyo I haven’t managed to find an excuse yet that would justify me buying it. Can be found here.

3. Eskadron Fetlock boots

I have the front leg versions of these ones, but not the backlegs hence why their on the list. Can be bought here.

4. Clincher browband

I don’t know how long I’ve looked for the right clincher browband and yet I haven’t found the perfect one that I want except for one that doesn’t get made anymore. But this one comes pretty close. Can be bought here(I didn’t come up with the price, I know its outrageous).

5. Schockemohle Colerado Stirrup leather

When I bought my saddle it came with new stirrups and stirrup leather. The only issue is that the leather is so useless, its really difficult to change the length if you are already sitting on the horse, so I am looking for some new ones. These ones from Schockemohle are pretty nice. Can be bought here.

6. Amerigo x Mattes dressage girth

In all honesty I should have just bought this one instead of the BR one, so now its on the christmas list(probably forever as I just realised the leather girth alone is 250 euro…). Love that it comes in black. The only thing is that you will have to buy the girth as well as the fur. Girth can be bought here and fur here.

So, that was my christmas list. Considering my family doesn’t have anything to do with horses, nor do they read this blog I will probably have to purchase it all by myself. haha.

Review – BR anatomic sheepskin dressage girth

I’ve had this girth for a while now, but I wanted to use it properly before writing a review.

This autumn when Mr.Grumpy started shedding I noticed that the skin close to his “armpits” where getting sore and I started becoming afraid that it would turn into pressure wounds. So on I went to find a girth with fur to prevent this.

My eyes quickly fell on the sheepskin girth from Mattes, but unfortunately at a price point of 140 euro I didn’t buy it. As no one had used a sheepskin girth on Mr.Grumpy before and him being a real diva about girths I didn’t want to splurge on something that might end up not working. After some research I came across the BR anatomic sheepskin girth at Epplejeck. Normally it’s 89 euro, but as it was 25% off I I payed about 60 euro or so.

This is what BR says about girth

BR Dressage girth Anatomical formed dressage girth, lined with medical sheepskin. Due to the curved shape, this girth gives more freedom around the elbow so that damage to the coat can be prevented. The sheepskin prevents girth galls and rubs. With stainless steel buckles and D-rings. BR Sheepskin reduces and divides the pressure of the saddle, prevents pressures and injuries, stimulates the blood circulation of the dorsal muscle, contains muscle relaxing features, is hygienic and sweat resistant and is not a breeding ground for bacteria.

My opinion about the girth

Overall the quality is really good. The fur is super soft and the girth feels sturdy even tough it’s not leather. I noticed a considerably change with Mr.Grumpy wearing this compared to his normal leather one. Normally he would walk stiff for 10 minutes before he would start to walk normal again, this is now completely gone. From the minute I get on him he walks fine. He also seems a lot more free in his movements and is “dancing” more. So for him it’s definitely a more pleasurable experience.

The only issue with this girth that really bugs me is the buckles. There is no elastic around the buckles which makes it a nightmare when you have to thighten it, I always end up inbetween two holes. They also seem really loose and of poor quality which is something I’ve read others have had problems with as well.

Today I washed it in the washing machine which I guess is the only downside to fur girths, you need to clean them more often due to the sweat ruining the fur. However the girth came out just fine and the fur hasn’t fallen out at all. The only thing is that it’s gotten misscolored by the black cotton on the outside of the girth, which doesn’t really look very nice. As this is just a training girth I don’t care too much about it to be honest, but if you were to use it for competitions I would avoid putting it in the washing machine.

Final statement

Overall a quality girth for the amount that I spent on it. I will probably save up to buy the Mattes one next time as this comes with elastic around the buckles and it’s in black which I personally think is prettier.
