Reitsportmesse Niederrhein 2018

Ola ola,

Yesterday me and the boyfriend drove to the south of the Netherlands for a gig that he had there. We weren’t planning on staying there, but we saw or I saw that the Reitsportmesse Niederrhein (horse event) was this weekend so I kindly asked if we could go there today.

This conference is a bit like Horse Event in the Netherlands with several clinics and loads of different shops. I mainly went there for the shopping as the clinics and shows are held in very small arenas and not really super interesting to me.

The main difference compared to last year was the offers. Last year you could buy Eskadron saddle pads for 20 euro in all different colors, while this year the prices were a lot higher. I also thought there was a lot of shops with the exact same stuff. Last year you could get a bit more variation and more upscale brands. So I ended up coming home with nada, niks, nothing.

It’s the perfect event to go to for people who need to buy a lot of cheap product for a schooling stable for example or your first horse. I was hoping to find a green saddle pad, but could unfortunately not find it.

Ah well, we had a nice day together and that’s more important then shopping 🙂

Superman to the rescue

Ola ola,

So. You have those rugs that I deem necessary, like the winter rugs and raincoat. Then you have those that you buy because you see it on sale and buy it while you do not really need it.

This walker rug from Rambo – Horseware was definitely one of those buys. I saw it on sale this summer and for some reason I really felt I needed it. Since it was pouring down today I took it for a test ride when walking to the lunging arena and walking about afterwards. To be honest the rug is really well made as you can expect from Horseware. It got a fleece inside and a water repellant outer layer. I didn’t dare to lunge with it as I’m afraid Grumpy would get his feet in the surcingles. Although its nice, it’s not a rug that you need at all. I do like the way it makes Grumpy look like he is wearing a superman coat tough. hoho

On another note, Grumpy was really stiff and slow today. I can’t really blame him as it has been such bad weather and it suddenly went from a decent warmth to really freaking cold. Tomorrow he has a day off with cuddles and walks before we start training properly for the next two weeks before I can ride again. Almost there, almost there!

Dear Santa

It’s officially less then a month till christmas. Which means thats its less then a month till Santa comes around. There is a few things that I hope will lay under my christmas tree. Even if I need to buy it myself 😉

  1. Equiline Helm and boots bag

Since I hopefully will be starting competitions in January this bag would be perfect. They actually don’t sell it in the Netherlands as far as I could find, but you can find it online here.

2. Eskadron Platinum Sweat rug

I’ve been wanting this rug since I first laid my eyes on the collection, but considering Mr.Grumpy has enough rugs from here to Tokyo I haven’t managed to find an excuse yet that would justify me buying it. Can be found here.

3. Eskadron Fetlock boots

I have the front leg versions of these ones, but not the backlegs hence why their on the list. Can be bought here.

4. Clincher browband

I don’t know how long I’ve looked for the right clincher browband and yet I haven’t found the perfect one that I want except for one that doesn’t get made anymore. But this one comes pretty close. Can be bought here(I didn’t come up with the price, I know its outrageous).

5. Schockemohle Colerado Stirrup leather

When I bought my saddle it came with new stirrups and stirrup leather. The only issue is that the leather is so useless, its really difficult to change the length if you are already sitting on the horse, so I am looking for some new ones. These ones from Schockemohle are pretty nice. Can be bought here.

6. Amerigo x Mattes dressage girth

In all honesty I should have just bought this one instead of the BR one, so now its on the christmas list(probably forever as I just realised the leather girth alone is 250 euro…). Love that it comes in black. The only thing is that you will have to buy the girth as well as the fur. Girth can be bought here and fur here.

So, that was my christmas list. Considering my family doesn’t have anything to do with horses, nor do they read this blog I will probably have to purchase it all by myself. haha.

Winter stable rugs guide 2016/2017

Even tough I would like summer to last forever, it unfortunately doesn’t and winter is upon us. The weather man even told me that it will be as cold as 4c during the night next week. This means its time to look at winter rugs.

One can become dizzy when you look at all the rugs at the marked at the moment. There is so many different ones, depending on what you need. In this post I have chosen to look at winter stable rugs in different prices and grams. It will start at 50 gram and move upwards.

Here you can see a small temperature guide which can give you  an indication on when to put on which rugs.

turnoutwardrobeguide

Please note that some of the rugs below have the option to be combinated with a liner, but I have chosen not to include this info and only focus on that specific rug. However if you are interested in these, then you should check out the websites of Bucas and Horseware as these are the two brands offering this at the moment. I personally do not like it as I’ve found that the liners end up sliding and not laying well.

I’ve chosen not to say which ones are best as everyone has a different preference, though Bucas and Horseware is known for being the best in the business, but it depends how nice your horse is to his/her rug and what type of style and needs you have. I personally use mostly Horseware Amigo as these fit well on Mr.Grumpy and price/duration is good. Of course there are plenty more brands and rugs out there then the rugs below, but these are the most common ones at the moment. By the way, surprises me that neither Eskadron or BR rugs are easy to find, they are available, but I’ve looked at 10 different sites and none of these were selling rugs from these two brands. Get your game on guys.

I will by the way do turnout rug guide for those horses living outside or being outside a lot in another post.

Ooteman Summer sales

Since we are in the spirit of sales. Ooteman always launches their sales prices before the actual sales, so you can sit down and look through and then quickly buy when the actual sales starts online. Today they released the prices and on Monday at 18.00, you will be able to buy the products. Below you can find some of the scoops I wouldn’t mind buying(you can find the links and prices below).

1. Kieffer Bridle Amilia 100 euro

3 for 2

Of course when you’ve given yourself a shopping ban and have absolutely no money, you get an email that Epplejeck has sales on with pay for 2 things, get 3. I don’t really need anything besides competition shirt and jacket, but as a shopping crazy woman, there are of course things I wouldn’t mind to have.

Aint I colorful? haha

  2. Euro-star competition shirt
  3. Harry’s horse breeches
  4. Kingsland sweat rug
  5. Eskadron tendon boots

Hay castles and counter canter

When you have a smart horse you continuously have to outsmart them. Mr. Grumpy is one of those horses. For a while now he has been making a fool of me when it comes to the left canter. Either he would decide to just stop or he would start to counter canter. Because he knew that I would then have to slow down and start again. Now that I’ve finally started to react quicker and pushing the right buttons he does the “correct” canter more or less from the beginning. The last half year he has been trying me out on so many things, but the canter has been my biggest annoyance. Now that we finally are becoming a team it feels so good!

Today his box was completely cleaned out and filled with new hay. For some reason it seems that he wants to save it as he pushes it all to one corner making a hay castle. Kinda cute.

Fetlock boots

While cleaning Mr.Grumpy’s legs today I noticed that he was a bit sensitive on his left backleg, it was like the fetlock boot had rubbed his skin to hard.  As the good owner I am I decided to go online to find a pair of new ones. He already has a nice pair for indoor, but I want one he can use outdoor that doesn’t cost half of my salary. Below you can see some of the ones I found:

1.BR Ultimo 49.95 e

2. BR classic 15.95 e

3. Eskadron Flexisoft classic 32.95 e

4. Back on Track Royal 54.96 e

5. Eskadron Flexisoft air 70.95 e

6. Epplejeck proride 13.95 e

I have the Eskadron Flexisoft Air for inside usage, but though I absolutely love them, I cannot afford another pair for outside. I think I will buy the BR classic for now.
