I am having the most lazy Sunday ever. After 3 days of busy socialising I’ve been spending the whole day on the sofa watching tv. Sometimes those are the best Sundays to be had. However the point of this post is to talk about Grumpy’s new rug and not my lazy ways.
As you can imagine, boyfriend did raise a brow when I bought this one. Considering my trunk is filled up to the brim with rugs he did not think I needed another one. I probably could have survived without, but I simply choose not to. haha
Since the summer has really stretched out here in the Netherlands, I felt I needed a rug that could cater to the cold mornings, but warmer days. In the beginning I did want to buy the 50 gram Bucas Celtic rug, but considering the price is above 100 euro, I felt I didn’t want to spend that much money on a rug that was only for a couple of weeks.
After thorough searching, I came across the new Highliner stable rug from Harry’s Horse. I’ve never owned any rugs from this line before, but several stable mates have had them and they always look good. It was more or less the only rug I could find that was 0 gram, had a fleece inner and was well put together. With 25% at Divoza, the rug turned out to be 50 euro. You might ask me why I didn’t just go for a summer rug, but I must admit I do not like the summer rugs on sale at the moment. The fabric of the Bucas one comes across terrible to me and I ended up giving away the one I had last year. This one feel like you get way more for your money.
As said it has a fleece inner, two surcingles under the belly as well as two around the back legs, and protection for neck and tail. I was really surprised of the quality for the price I paid. I did have to change it for a smaller size as they do fit very large, but the fit overall is very nice. Grumpy is normally a size 195, in this one he is a 185.
If you are looking for a rug for the months where the weather is really in between hot and cold this is a great rug for a good price.
ps. Not sponsored, bought it myself 🙂
If you have followed my blog for a while you would know that I really like the Recuptex rugs from Bucas. I bought mine last year because Grumpy was struggling a lot with stiffness, which definitely became better with using the rug regularly.
The only downside to the rug is that I do find it to warm to put on after training as your horse keep sweating or for use in the summer. There were quite a lot of people mentioning this to Bucas and they seemed to have listened. They have recently released a new version of it called Light. The only main difference on this rug compared to mine is that the sides are made of Mesh, so it’s a very breathable rug that will still keep the blood flowing. Definitely a smart upgrade of them. If you want to buy it, it’s available at Dochorse or HERE for 160,-.
So this might not be the color I would choose for Mr.Grumpy(he would possibly try to kill me), but I do find it cute.
Bucas has 3 new pink rugs for the spring which is the freedom turnout, freedom summer rug and freedom fly rug. Freedom is the cheapest line that Bucas carries, but it still comes with the Bucas quality. The rugs are now in stores.
Freedom turnout – 84.50 euro
Freedom fly rug with neck – 74.50 euro.
Can we just take a minute to admire this horrible photoshop job done by Bucas? Is that really the promo photo you want flying around on the internet? Pfft. At least don’t cut off one leg. Haha.
Freedom summer rug 54.50 euro.
You know that feeling when you’ve wanted something for a while and you finally got it? That’s the feeling I had today.
I felt like a kid in a candy shop when I came home and saw that the therapy rug from Bucas that I’ve been drooling after for a while had arrived. I originally found it to expensive, but I’ve read so many good reviews about it that I finally decided to take the plunge.
So the meaning behind the rug is that the top half of it warms up the back and ass of the horse so that it will be warmed up before you go riding. I will do a thorough review of it once I’ve tried it properly, but so far I’m positive. He walked really well in the lesson even tough I only had it on for 15 minutes, but it might be it was just all in my head, so will have to try it on a couple of more days.
Always so happy as you can see.
This year Bucas is turning 35 years and to celebrate they have created a limited edition turnout rug. The rug will be available with two types of lining, one with silk feel and one with stay-dry. The stay dry version can be put straight on the horse even when its wet after excersize as the lining will dry the horse and keep him/her warm. The rug will be in black with silver, completely waterproof and come with fillings from 50 to 200 gram. The rugs will be available from October on at your local dealer from 110 euro – 79 pounds.
My mom was always really adimint at teaching me that beauty is in the eye of the beholder when I was young. But gosh. For their anniversary Bucas could have chosen another model…. :/
