Musli Heaven

It’s crazy how fast you feel out of the riding game once you’ve been gone for a little. Yesterday I felt like I was a complete beginner in the beginning, but luckily it went better towards the end. I use to much help to get him to move forward, so I am trying to simplyfy it and make him listen to smaller aids instead. It’s not easy, but little by little it’s getting better. On Sunday we are going to take him to this local lake so that he can take a swim, totally excited for that!
In the winter he normally gets carrots as a treat after riding, but as they get so fast bad because of the heat now I went to buy musli yesterday. Mr.Grumpy was a very happy man when he got it, to say the least.

Short hair don't care

Welcome back to myself.

I spent a weekend in London last weekend, so me and Mr.Grumpy was seperated for a little. Hence why you didn’t see any posts for a little while, but now we’re back again!

Since Mr.Grumpy is awaiting quite heavy lessons this week I decided to put him on the lunge today so that he could use his back a bit and get some excersize without me on him.

While I was gone my helprider decided to cut his mane and such stuff as it was becoming pretty long. You know when you go to the hairdresser and the hairdresser just keeps on cutting your hair and on the inside your screaming “STOP”, I am pretty sure Mr.Grumpy was screaming that while she was going at it as he now looks like a Fjording. No joke, like a Fjording. Thankfully it’s just hair, so it will grow out again, but I must admit I had to look twice when I walked into his stable. Haha. You can see the photos below and judge for yourself.

Miss my man

This weekend my bestfriend came over from Norway, so I only got to see Mr.Grumpy for a short while on Sunday when we visited the stable. For the last 5 months I’ve been riding more or less everyday, so it was really weird to be away from him for so many days. Luckily he was very well taken care of by my extra riders that for example took him to the Forrest. It’s good to know that I have people that can take really well care of him when I don’t have time. Tomorrow it’s finally back to riding again.

As my private lesson with one of my instructors went so well last week I am just going to focus on continue what we practiced then and keep my heels down and stomach muscles on the entire lesson. Hopefully the beautiful weather that is going on right now will last so that we can ride outside. I’ll keep you updated on how it went!

Private lesson

Today me and Mr.Grumpy had our first private lesson with a Grand Prix rider at our barn. The left canter issue has to be solved and he certainly makes me work hard to get there. I need to become more aware of where I place my hand when I ask for the canter. He is a smart horse, so he just keeps testing me. Today I had to do full forward gallop on the long sides and then do small circles at the corners to make him more collected and have him listen more. I’ve never had him gallop this hard before, was so much fun and we both enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the next lesson next week. Afterwards he got a shower, carrots and an hour outside as per usual. Good day for us both.

Arrow to the head

Yesterday when I was about to go to Mr.Grumpy I suddenly got really dizzy and nauseous, as I had been the same the night before I didn’t understand what was going on. However when I started thinking back to what I had been doing on Saturday I realized I probably suffered a light concussion of some sort. On saturday I went to this BBQ with my gym where you could shoot with Bow and Arrow. Unfortunately a guy decide to use my head as a target instead of the actually target and launched one straight into the side of my back-head. It hurt right there and then, but then I forgot about it till I got ill. So unfortunately no riding Mr.Grumpy for me yesterday and today. I will go to him later to give him some carrots though, cant go to long without seeing my big furry friend. He’s been ridden by his extra rider, so luckily he’s not been standing still.

Miss my funny buddy.

Goals 2016

As 2016 will be our first proper year together I’ve set up a few goals that we are working towards. I think its important to have goals to be able to improve and get to know eachother better.

  • Left Canter

As you’ve probably(hopefully) read before we are having problems with the left canter. He has a tendency to counter canter instead of just going into the left canter. He is not doing this with any other riders, so its a miscomunication between us that I need to fix. If I go from walk directly to counter we have no problem, its from trot to canter it comes up. This one should be gone in a couple of months hopefully. He did a great job in fridays lesson atleast.

  • Competitions

My ultimate goal with competitions this is to start in B and hopefully ride that out. Mr.Grumpy knows everything up to level Z, so it shouldnt be that difficult. Once I have the left canter under control and feel I can do a round well I am going to start.

  • Riding in the forrest

Mr.Grumpy is stalled in an area with great hacking possibilities. A short ride away you can also find mile long beaches which I would love to ride on one day. Unfortunately my anxiety for riding outside is pretty bad, but its sometime we are really practicing on now that the weather has become better. He is super calm and nice outside, so I just need to sit back and relax myself. Hopefully by the end of the year we can ride alone in the forrest.

  • Flying changes

This one is more for fun. As he is a retired eventer/jumper he does them really easily. Hopefully by the end of the year we will go from doing a single change to a double. Plus we need to do the single ones more smoothly and prettier.

  • Overall

However the most important goal is to just get to know eachother and have fun. I am an beginning equestrian and I therefor bought Mr.Grumpy as a learning master which he has already really proven himself in. I’ve learned so much the last half year, cant wait for what the future will bring for us.

Hopefully by the end of the year I will be able to write that we have reached them all!
